Do you think this is an abusive relationship?

My mom is worried that my bf will become abusive. She was in a abusive relationship and she says she sees the signs in him. I dont think that he will. He does have anger problems but he says that he will go to anger management for it, we both are reading relationship books together. We both really love each other. He says he wants me to marry him when I turn 18 or at least get engaged, i dont know if this is a bad thing or not. He has never hit me and he says that "yes I do get mad at you at times, but I would never ever hit you". He always says that I am beautiful and a good person. I dont remember ever bringing me down except when we get mad at each other he calls me stupid but I call him stupid when I get mad to. I know he has some mental problems, he was abused when he was a kid, but I really do love him. I just wanna know what you guys think. Thank you
