What made her sad was the fact that she saw these beautiful things and it made her realize what she wishes to one day have. The theme of her life obviously in her eyes is the last part of the movie, some type of let down she feels that she has experienced in life. She can relate in a negative way and that scene probably took her back to that moment in her life where she could relate emotionally.
