Who are we all in the End? Human?

Let me start by saying please be nice and answer with respect and thoughtfulness. Ok so I was asked what are you?I said human he said no where you from I said Chicago he said no your family I said Chicago he said what's your race I said American he said but you talk Spanish? I said I know several I speak Spanish English French some Farsi and Italian. Then he said where are your ancesters from I said America I said and you? He said I'm white so I said but white from where?he answered upset american stupid I said your Indian? He said AMERICAN. I said your ancestors he said Ireland I said o your Irish he corrected me saying Irish American so I said so that makes me ???? He said Mexican of course I said hmmmm well if you go back to the beginning from Spain but that's before America was America he said so your a foriegner. Wow and this "was" a friend I ask if your born here aren't you American by birth. Being that countless generations in my family are from America I find this odd.well what's your opinion on this what are we , are we not human then asociated by birthplace weird question right???
